The Trump Administration's Actions against Trans and Queer Folk

I'm already sick of this. But I can't stop thinking about maybe this one little thing I can do that someone online told me to do: witness what happens (maybe it was Angry Gay Grandpa on YouTube, I'll figure it out later). So here I will write out all the actions against trans and other queer people, and say what has happened, what the status is on its effectiveness, and who is affected. Hopefully this will be a living document and if you are reading this and have suggestions, let me know. Here we go.

  • January 20, 2025: Initial Rescissions of Harmful Executive Orders and Actions
    • Rescinds a bunch of prior executive orders put in place by the Biden administration including:
      • Executive Order 13988 of January 20, 2021: Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation 
      • Executive Order 14004 of January 25, 2021: Enabling All Qualified Americans To Serve Their Country in Uniform
        • Allowed transgender people to serve in the military without discrimination
      • Executive Order 14021 of March 8, 2021: Guaranteeing an Educational Environment Free From Discrimination on the Basis of Sex, Including Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity
        • Talks mostly about sexual harassment, and extends any language about discrimination due to sex in educational institutions to also include sexual orientation and gender identity
      • Executive Order 14075 of June 15, 2022: Advancing Equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Individuals
        • This one's about supporting LGBTQI+ youth in various ways
    • January 20, 2025: Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government
      • This defines male and female as immutable from conception. Federal government issued identification such as passports must reflect this understanding
      • It also says federal funds are not to be used to promote gender ideology
      • This is also a bathroom bill and designates federal bathrooms to be split by this immutable sex and not by gender identity
      • It also allows businesses to discriminate based on gender identity

    • Executive Order 14187 of January 28, 2025: Protecting Children From Chemical and Surgical Mutilation

      • This blocks federal funding for any gender affirming care for people under the age of 19 including:
        • Surgery (this rarely happens)
        • Hormone replacement therapy
        • Hormone blockers
    •  Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling 
      • It looks like this will, in 90 day, make it illegal for schools to support trans and non-binary kids in any way, such as by acknowledging their existence as gender diverse or by calling them by their preferred pronouns or names
